The Last Words of Jesus #1

You can Google various lists of famous last words and have some quite entertaining reading…some of it quite poignant. Steven Wright, the well known comedian, once said he
wished the first word he spoke was “Quote”, then right before he died he could say “Unquote”.

Die, my dear? Why that’s the last thing I’ll do! ~Groucho Marx

In order to find the last words of Jesus, one might naturally go to the end of one of the four Gospels. Acts chapter 1 has some pre-ascension words of Christ as well. But the last words I am thinking of are found on the last page of your New Testament (Revelation 22:13 -20). That is not to say that Jesus has been silent ever since, but these are the last words of inspired writ, and they are important.

One of the things Jesus wants us to know is that He is our everything.

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. ~Revelation 22:13

… I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star. ~Revelation 22:16

In these word pictures Jesus describes himself as an eternal being. He is someone who is like a tree that someone has come down, but when Spring arrives life is still evident. He is the brightest star in the morning sky, catching your attention.

Jesus is our everything because he is before us and after us. Our entire lives are lived in His presence, from beginning to end. He is all powerful, unable to be defeated by any enemy. He is a beacon, calling us from our darkest places into His light.

These descriptions of Jesus tell me that He has never been out of our reach. He has never been disinterested in our lives. He has always wanted to live with us forever.

Apostle Paul said it this way:

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities… He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:16-17

There isn’t a part of your life that is untouchable … Jesus is your everything. More of what Jesus’ last words tell us, in the next post. For now here are some FREE books for your Amazon Kindle!
