Today upon awakening an hour late because I didn’t hear my alarm for some reason, a small skirmish of the will took place.
Weak John: It’s an hour late, you missed your walk.
John: Yeah, that’s true, it will mess up my morning to walk now.
Strong John: If you don’t walk today you might decide not to walk the rest of the week. You know how you are!
Weak John: But you’ve been doing pretty good, what’s wrong with taking a few days off.
John: I should probably walk, I don’t want to give up what I’ve started.
Strong John: That’s right, and you’ll be so glad that you did that.
Weak John: Well, you know it rained last night and I bet the streets are wet and it’ll be soooo muggy out now that the sun has come up.
John: True, I like walking just as the sun is coming up … the coolest part of the day.
Strong John: So, you think it went from 68 degrees to 90 degrees in the last hour? Get your shoes on man.
Weak John: What if it’s still raining? That’s probably not a good idea. You could get sick.
Strong John: You sweat like a horse, you’re going to get wet anyway. What does a little rain hurt?
Weak John: You could ruin your iPhone then what would you listen to while you walk? Him? (pointing to Strong John)
Strong John: You could do worse (glaring at Weak John).
John: Guys, just cool it. I’m going for my walk.
One hour later after three miles…
Strong John: Awesome! Good things set in motion on a great Wednesday! Woo!
Weak John: You smell bad.
Such is the war … and I be you’ve been hearing your strong and weak voices today in some way or another. Decide who you’re going to listen to and follow Him!
From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!” Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” ~ Matthew 16:21-23
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. ~Colossians 3:1-3
