Saturday Night

Maggy and I had a delightful day. It was a much-needed relaxing kind of day that started off by sleeping a little later than usual. We ate lunch at Applebees on a gift card (thanks Anna!). Then we walked around a store or two for a bit without buying anything … just hanging out. Maggy wanted to see some of the neighborhoods around Monroe so I showed her where some of the Forsythe members lived and some other places. That’s when a phone call came from Jason and Christina. We met at the movie theater and watched Vantage Point (more on that later). We enjoyed spending a few hours with them. We’re currently back at the apartment and you can tell Maggy’s here … TLC is on the television. I thought we came here to escape thoughts of renovation!

Vantage Point is an outstanding movie in most every way. It is kind of a mix of political thriller, suspense, mystery, and It is also a very unique movie in that the story line only lasts about twenty minutes. You just get to view it from the ‘vantage point’ of several different characters. In a way it reminds me of Memento, in that each repetition of the story reveals something new or different than the previous telling. Of course I’m not going to reveal anything about the movie … but there are enough twists and turns along the way to keep you from blinking. Matthew Fox, Dennis Quaid, Forest Whitaker,¬†Sigourney Weaver and William Hurt top off a fantastic cast.¬†Maggy pointed out that because of the swiftness of the story telling, you really do not get to know the individual stories as much as we would have liked. If you like a pulse-pounding movie, this is it.
