Revival is falling in love with Jesus all over again. – Vance Havner
Loving the Lord Jesus Christ is a lifelong heart-journey, not a one time experience. Remember when you first gave your heart to Christ. What was the setting? What did you finally realize? When did it dawn on you beyond intellect – in your heart – that Jesus died on the cross because he loved you with the greatest love one can have for another? Every expression of the great love of Christ falls short of explanation. The Divine love that He has for you is evident in His sacrifice to save you and His desire to live with you forever.
Grace be with all who have an undying love for our Lord Jesus Christ.
An undying love for Christ – who can claim it? We get distracted … bored … sidetracked. We fall into habitual sin. For a while we explain it away until one day, like the prodigal, we awaken to a realization of the distance between us and Jesus. And so across a lifetime of discipleship we strive to grow closer to Him, loving Him with all of our heart, seeking to know Him in a deeper way. Sometimes drawing closer, sometimes failing. Revival comes when we reawaken to our love for a Savior who reaches for us with hands of grace.
1 John 4:16-19
…God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love. We love because he first loved us.
Ask God to keep your spirit tender to sin so that you do not slip away from loving Him. Ask Him to guard your heart and to give you strength to keep from being drawn away by the schemes of the Enemy. Plead with him to keep you close, abiding in His love so completely that the Day of Judgment doesn’t hold any fear for you whatsoever. Desire to love Jesus with devotion that is not distracted by the world. Remember in your moments of wavering that you love Him so much because He loved you first.
Take a few minutes to watch and listen to Judah Smith’s stirring reflection on Barrabbas and let the story of the grace of God awaken your heart to loving Jesus once again. That is where revival can take hold today.
