Revival Prayer: Confession
“Children of God … ought to allow the Holy Spirit through their conscience to point out their sins one by one. Christians must accept its reproach and be willing, according to the mind of the Spirit, to eliminate everything which is contrary to God.” ~Watchman Nee
In seeking God for revival, how many have asked themselves if it is their own sin that is standing in the way? How can we give ourselves over to God fully without acknowledging our own episodes of falling short of his glory? Ask God to reveal to you the depth and the evil of your sin. Call on the Holy Spirit to move you to confess and repent of your sin. Now pray those things for all believers.
Psalm 19:12-14 But who can detect their errors? Clear me from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from the insolent; do not let them have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The Holy Spirit is grieved when a believer cherishes sin and does not confess and repent of it. We cherish sin when we have no intention of releasing it from our lives. We cherish sin when we obsess about it. We cherish sin when we ignore it in ourselves but condemn it in others. When we cherish sin, we build a wall between us and God.
Psalm 66:18 If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.
Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with which you were marked with a seal for the day of redemption.
Believers must be honest about their sin and must come clean with God about these things. In our brokenness we encounter the Great Physician, who heals and revives.
