Discouragement is common for spiritually minded people. Throughout the Bible great servants who did mighty and wonderful things for God found themselves in times of despair and feeling the weight of responsibility.
In today’s prayer text Moses was burdened to the breaking point (Numbers 11:10-30). He expressed his burdens to the Lord and sought relief. Have you ever said any of these things to God?
*Why have You brought such trouble on Your servant?
*Why are You angry with me, and why do You burden me
*I can’t carry all these people by myself. They are too much for me.
*If You are going to treat me like this, please kill me right now.
*If You are pleased with me, don’t let me see my misery anymore.
Maybe you’ve said similar things to God. It is not disrespectful nor sinful to do so … He knows that we are hurting and bewildered … discouraged… and in need of help.
God’s reply to Moses was to answer his need.
The Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s power limited?”… ~Numbers 11:23
That’s a great question to remember in our times of discouragement. It may not answer all of your questions today. But God is able … and He does hear. Today pray and ask God for the encouragement you need. Ask Him to help you bear the burdens in your life – we all have them.
“The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays.” ― Søren Kierkegaard
As we head to 2015 we may carry some burdens with us, but we can be assured that He will help us bear those because His power is unlimited!
