Most Christians spend their lives on a roller coaster of faith. There are times when we are devoted to the Lord fully, and other times when we wake up and realize we’ve wandered. We join the witness of all of the great men and women of God we read about in the Bible. None of them were perfect and neither are we. We do, however, desire to be closer to God … more devoted … growing in our faith and dedication.
Our prayer text for today is an amazing prayer from King Solomon in 2 Chronicles 6:12-42. This great and powerful king was full of humility at this point in his life as he knelt down before the entire congregation of Israel and spread his hands toward the Lord. Take some time to read this prayer … a prayer of dedication of the temple of God.
As you contemplate this prayer, consider how you can dedicate yourself to God with these words. You are, after all, the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). A prayer offering yourself to God as His holy temple … a life dedicated to Him … might include these elements:
*Recognition of the power, strength, and grace of God (2 Chronicles 6:14).
*Acknowledgment of the promise-keeping nature of God (2 Chronicles 6:15-17)
*Confession of your inadequacy before His holiness (2 Chronicles 6:18)
*Request His attention, His Presence (2 Chronicles 6:19-20)
We may live victoriously, not because we have any power within ourselves, but because when we give ourselves to God, He gives himself to us. ~Norman Vincent Peale
*Seek His forgiveness for your weakness (2 Chronicles 6:21)
*Express Hope for His Justice when others are wronged (2 Chronicles 6:22-23)
*A appeal for His mercy when you repent of your sins (2 Chronicles 6:24-25)
…May You hear in heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel. ~2 Chronicles 6:25
*Submit your life to God and request his attention to your suffering and pain (2 Chronicles 6:26-30)
*Ask God for the strength to walk in his ways, both for yourself and even for a foreigner who requests His strength and help. (2 Chronicles 6:31-33)
*Depend on God to help you overcome sin and fight against His enemies in a way that glorifies Him (2 Chronicles 6:34-39)
*Remember to rejoice in faith as God hears, sees, saves, and receives your prayer. (2 Chronicles 6:40-42)
I’m sure if you study and pray through this prayer you will uncover even more that can help you as you seek to be stronger in your devotion to the Lord. Just as Solomon dedicated the temple to God, so we must be dedicated to the Lord alone as a Holy Temple.
