The labored breathing of my stepdad has now come to a restful peace. We knew this day was coming. We all felt we had prepared as best we could. But I suppose no one is really ready for the absence of the next breath.
This morning I saw various family members say their last goodbye to my stepdad. He had already said his last goodbye. For months he would be winded just to walk across the room. Seldom did we see him without an oxygen tank nearby.
I think my dad wanted to see my mother through her bout with cancer. And he did. Then he made his way to his own destiny, unable to overcome the cancer in his own body.
Tomorrow we will visit the funeral home and make arrangements. Your prayers are precious to us. Thank you for the love and support. I’ll keep you posted.
