Monday in North Louisiana

Today felt like a roller coaster after that first big hill … it just never did slow down. But that’s great for me, as far as I’m concerned. I spent a good part of the day with friends, working together through some things. I know, that’s a vague statement but it’s fine.

I did talk to Jason Barnard this afternoon. They are in Orlando this week. There’s a little disturbance called Tropical Storm Fay that will give them a stormy afternoon tomorrow but they should be okie dokie. Jason’s about to get busy enough to stir up a storm when he gets back and starts gearing up for DISCOVER 08. That’s our youth rally that he puts together here in Monroe. If you weren’t going to come, you ought to decide to be here. There are great speakers and classes lined up. Also there will be a performance by Watershed Worship – coming out of retirement to sing for us and with us. It’s worth the trip just for that. More information can be found HERE! Register early and get a cool t-shirt designed by Forsythe’s resident artist, Jarod Stokes. Really, all the cool people will be here on that first weekend of October.

Personal rant here, but somewhere along the way Donald WILDmon’s e-mails became One News Now … I suppose purporting to be a source of news for Christians. Now before I wrinkle anyone’s evangelical undies, I do want to say that Wildmon has done some great things. Many people enjoy American Family Radio. And truthfully he and his legal team have defended some Christians in cases that they may not have been able to win without his help. But how does it help Christianity that his spin on the news is SO slanted to the right and the headlines are so sensational? I don’t think it helps at all. In fact, I think it makes Christians look like reactionary spin-machines that turn every news story into an attack on the Kingdom of God. I don’t suppose there is any news that is truly “fair and balanced” … but I do not need the news to be tilted to the Christian Right in order to understand what’s going on.  My main worry is not that there is an attack on Christianity under every rock. I’m more worried that the world doesn’t even know we’re here. Maybe I’m ignorant, but that’s what I think anyway.

If you have another view of it, feel free to post it!

I did update my HOT POSTS page for the first time in a long time. Check them out! Thanks for stopping by!
