Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. ~Hebrews 13:1-2
I’d like to tell you about some angels. Hurricane Isaac did a lot of damage across the Mississippi / Louisiana landscape. I have a home in Pascagoula, Mississippi. By no means can the damage sustained at my home compare to the flooding and destruction that occurred in other places. A tornado destroyed a home just a few blocks from mine. But we did have some damage.
There was also some debris in the yard and a piece of siding hanging down in front. A shutter was missing (found in the yard). My sister Charlene, her husband Juan, and kids AJ and Sara live in Ocean Springs. She contacted me and volunteered to go over and take a look and do what they could.
We were so grateful for their hard work in our behalf. It is hard to live so far from the house and know that there is damage there. My mom was having a medical procedure that kept us from being able to go down to the Coast to check on everything. In my mind, the Martinez family qualifies for the the term ‘angel’!
I’m sorry I don’t have a picture with Juan in it.
Anyway, I’m not surprised that Charlene and Juan and kids volunteered. They are, after all, Katrina survivors. And Charlene is her dad’s daughter. We all miss him. In his healthy days he would have been right beside them helping out.
I’m sure in all of the storm-affected regions there are angels at work serving and loving and helping others. One of those is Mike Baumgartner… check him out if you’d like to volunteer with a great crew.
