Just a little preacher talk here. I’ve just finished a series of messages from the book of James. I was very challenged personally by the teachings of this book. I know what I’m going to preach in August. So that means I’ve got this two week interlude. I like preaching in series so that I know what’s next and no decision really has to be made. So I don’t know what to do for the next two weeks. I’d like to teach something that is needed by those who congregate at Forsythe Avenue. I am committed to teaching the Scriptures. So those two items help some… but there are 66 books in the Bible and a lot of needs in our church. Still in between.
In our evening services on Sundays and Wednesdays we are learning some new songs. Tomorrow night we’re going to give At The Cross a run. Here’s Hillsong’s original version of this great song:
Our version will be much the same. Except we won’t have Darlene Zschech leading the song for us. And there won’t be thousands of singers. As is our tradition, there won’t be a band – just vocal music. OK, so it won’t be much the same after all. We will learn by listening to Zoe Worship’s version of the song and singing it congregationally. We’ve been working on Wonderful Merciful Savior, Blessed Be The Name (Matt Redman’s song), Mighty To Save, Lord I Give You My Heart.
For those who haven’t heard Zoe’s excellent harmony and the way they bring contemporary songs to an acappella tradition, here is one someone posted on youtube of a song I love called Hosana.
Ah… and I just found Mighty To Save.
This week we have VBS going on at Forsythe every morning from 9:00 – 11:30. It’s been great! There are two more mornings to go (Wednesday and Thursday). I suppose tomorrow I shall have to spring the Bear Hunt song on them. I originally learned it many years ago from Danny Dodd (who should be arriving home from Lithuania sometime in the next several hours).
In my Sunday School class starting this week we’ll be watching The Second Chance and talking about it. Hope if you can come you will! A preview? Of course! Glad you asked!
OK, I’m breaking all of my own rules about blogging … too long, too much stuff … too disconnected. Welcome to my brain tonight!
If you got this far, you are my honored guest! Thanks for reading!
