Monday morning I will be going to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to work with Mike Baumgartner (Click here to follow his blog) in disaster relief. I chose to work with Mike because he is experienced in getting food and supplies to people. Also because I am a highly unskilled worker, but I can do some of the things he is doing.
According to the University Church of Christ website, the current needs in that are as follows:
- Baby items:diapers, diaper bags, wipes, infant Tylenol, gas relief drops, bottles, powdered formula
- Hand Sanitizer, Clorox Wipes
- Individual Cereal Boxes
- Pop-top cans of fruit
- Aluminum foil
- Canned tuna/chicken
If you are reading this and are so moved, I will be happy to transport these items with me when I go. Time is short, though, so you’ll have to act fast! I would also like to take Bibles with me if you have some extra Bibles or would like to buy some. If you prefer to give gift cards, I will distribute them wisely.
I covet your prayers as I travel there… not only for my safety … but that I will be able to encourage and bless those who are still stunned by the horrific force of nature that destroyed so many lives.
As I travel to Alabama I recognize that I do not have much to offer. I do remember, though, the thousands of individuals who came to Pascagoula to help us in our time of need. I will never forget the love and compassion shown to us, nor do I fail to give thanks to God for the way He worked through each of them.
