Greetings Friends. That word…friends… powerful. Friends have surrounded us with their love. In this most heartbreaking time for us, so many have offered thoughts, prayers, food, cards, calls, texts, e-mails, and hugs. One friend pointed me to the video above. I think it has a lot of good things to say about friends leaning on one another during the most rugged times.
Truly we have been carried on your shoulders. Every expression has let us know that we are not alone in our tears. Both Maggy and I have had our times of tears today … and every day. They come unexpectedly like summer thunderstorms … raging furiously in powerful squalls … giving way to light and clarity. Along with our tears have been the rainbows … the reminders of God’s presence through the burden-sharing brothers, sisters, friends, and even strangers.
Today we travel on our way to Tennessee. Pray for a safe journey, but especially for us to begin to understand the truth of God’s love through our intense pain. Those two things do not seem to go together … and so our cry joins that of other parents who weep at the loss of their children such as Adam, Job, King David, and God.
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:17-19
In spite of the pain that never leaves me … that groans deep within my soul even in times of joy … there is a love that extends farther, covers and fills the empty places. It is perhaps at this hour of great desperation that I desire His love more than ever before. In you, my friends, His love stretches to cover the wound with His healing grace. Thank you.
