Darwin’s Garden

Dear flowers I adopted and placed,

Your beauty is beyond compare.

Your colors bright, stems well spaced,

It is impossible not to stare.

In the cool of this afternoon,

I did not mind to arrange you.

Such joy is quite a boon,

almost as if I were meant to.

Soon, the cool breeze will turn,

like the betrayer so long ago.

The air will scorch and burn,

and help grow the mosquito.

It is during this time, dear flowers

that your strength will be tested.

The truth is you’ll be on your own;

by summer heat I am bested.

So enjoy this attention while you may,

for it will not last long.
