Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting

Tonight is the Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting – the worlds largest candle lighting ceremony. It begins in New Zealand. Several friends from our LifeGroup will join us tonight at Grace Episcopal to remember and mark the lives of children who have died before their parents. It is a painful event in some ways, a healing one in others. If you cannot attend an event, you can still join the wave of light across the world by lighting a candle at 7:00 p.m. in your time zone. This year I have the assignment to read the following poem. We’ll take any prayers for us that you care to offer … but would you please also say a prayer for the parents worldwide who are living without their children? God bless you.

Tonight I Hold This Candle

Tonight I hold this candle In memory of you.
Hoping someway somehow my love will shine through
I close my eyes lost in the glow
There are so many things I want you to know

In the glow of this candle I can almost see your smile
And it carries me away for a little while
To another time another place
When all it took to light up my world was your beautiful face

Someday Someway I’ll see you again
I’ll hold you in my heart until then

This candle says I love you – This candle says I will miss you
This candle is saying I remember you
When I’m holding it toward heaven
It feels like you are near
If you’re looking down tonight and see this candle burning bright
It says I’m wishing you were here
