This is a three part Wednesday night Bible lesson presented by John Dobbs and Daniel Kirkendall online on Facebook for the Forsythe Church of Christ and anyone else who is interested! (Video Here) I will be adding to these notes over the next two weeks as they are presented. – John
Attitude contains the ideas and concepts that have to do with ALL aspects of our lives. Not situational. Not conditional. Not reactionary. Attitude is the thermometer that displays the temperature of our heart. Just like a thermometer, others are able to diagnose our (heart’s) condition. And just like an illness, there may be some steps that need to be taken in order to fix it.
In our everyday life, we have to have check-ups, or “wellness checks”. When it comes to our soul, we may need to have attitude checks.
So we want to look at some scriptures that mention those things that encapsulate every part of our life. “In all things”, “at all times”, “in every situation”, the things, or the attitudes that you can’t say “what if”, or “however”.
And this is healthy. It’s a good reminder as we talk about these things to kind of make a checklist, and reflect on our own attitudes.
Attitude defined: a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.
The first attitude we will consider is Peace
Psalm 119:165 Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.
Phillipians 4:7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Another Attitude is Boldness
Hebrews 10:35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
Acts 2:25-26 “‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope.
Psalm 3:3,6 You O Lord are a shield about me, my glory and the lifter of my head. I will not fear, though tens of thousands assail me.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline
A Third Attitude is Generosity
Luke 21:1-4 Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, 2 and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. 3 And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. 4 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
1 Corinthians 16:2 On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.
2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; 10 then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.
Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
1 John 3:16-19 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 19 By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him;
Romans 2:7 to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life;
1 Kings 8:21 And there I have provided a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord that he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.”
Acts 2:42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Colossians 1:29 For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me.
Luke 9:62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Proverbs 16:3 Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. (NLT: Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.)
ATTITUDES PART TWO
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!”
Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.
Psalm 23:16????Maybe vs 1-2? The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
Mark 4:35-41 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” 36 And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. 38 But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” 39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
James 3:1 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.

Phillipians 2:1-9 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name,
Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do.

2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.

Philippians 4:11-12 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
