Allow His Spirit to Surge

“All through the New Testament there rings this plea for Christian unity. It is more than a plea; it is an announcement that the Christian cannot live the Christian life, unless in his personal relationships he is at unity with his fellow-men; and that the church cannot be the Christian church, if there are divisions within it.” ~William Barclay

“Resolve to be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant with the weak and the wrong. Sometime in life you will have been all of these.” Bob Goddard

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” ~John 13:34-35

When it is really hard to accept your brother or sister … when it challenges all that is within you to love someone … when your first impulse is to hate and strike back with vengeance … that is when we die to self and allow His Spirit to surge ahead in our hearts. He will do what is right even when we do not know what to do. This is hard. This is Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. ~Galatians 5:22-25

And when we find ourselves unwilling to allow His Spirit to arise within us, let us seek His face once again.
