A Prayer for Our Elders and Ministers
And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share in his glory when he is revealed to the whole world. As a fellow elder, I appeal to you: Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example.1 Peter 5:1-3 NLT
Father, you fill us with such joy. We lift your name above all names as we seek your blessings and guidance. We also thank you for your abundant gifts—the gifts we use in our weak vessels to honor and serve you and your people. Even though we often feel inadequate to the task, we know and are confident of your Spirit strengthening us. We pray for the courage to act gracefully.
We pray for wisdom to speak truthfully. We pray for compassion to serve gently. We pray for your love to fill our hearts so that we can fulfill our call impartially. We pray for perseverance so that we will not lose heart.
We pray, Father, that we will always keep our eyes fixed on Jesus—to shepherd, to proclaim, to teach, and to love as he did. Thank you for being ever-present for us and hearing our prayers in the name of Jesus, Amen.
