A Prayer For Deeper Discipleship
Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.Luke 9:23 NIV
Jesus, we desire to follow you as students of the life you lived and shared. As we reflect on the past year that just ended, we see areas of our lives that didn’t measure up to the life of discipleship to which you have called us. Sometimes, we are fickle in our commitment, allowing the priorities of the world to take first place in our hearts. At times, we are more concerned about pleasing others than pleasing you.
Help us to avail ourselves of your teachings, your words, your attitudes, and your speech. Grant us a sensitivity to the sin that keeps us from growing closer to you. Even more, give us a willingness to let that sin go and to pursue being available to be used to accomplish your will. We desire to be faithful. We desire to reach out to the lost world around us. We desire to imitate the love, compassion, commitment, and strength you demonstrated in your life.
Help us, Lord, to never be satisfied with who we are. Give us an insatiable desire to walk in your steps.
