I don’t think God has to hear us use pretty or majestic words in order to answer our prayers. But when we are spending our time praying and talking to God, it seems to me that there are certain words that stir the heart. These prayer words initiate feelings and further prayer thoughts that enliven our prayers. Perhaps even seeing them may provide the impulse to pray.
I recently asked on Twitter and Facebook for words that people considered powerful prayer words. I wanted to share their contributions with you. One suggestion would be to use these words as prayer starters … allowing these words that mean so much to other believers … to stir your heart to prayer – moving out of your common prayer language / routine. At least that’s what I was thinking while assembling these words.

The words I most often use in prayer include; courage, strength, hope, healing, faith, trust, patience…
For me, battling panic attacks my prayers often use those words and as I constantly seeking the strength and courage to face each day.
Those are great words Jennifer.
Great list. We should do more “crowd sourcing” of spiritual ideas.
Grace and peace,
Tim Archer
Thanks Tim!
Awesome words! I like using the word “Father” a lot, for He really has become that relational Father to me. I just love repeating that in my prayers. I know I am not the greatest at making time for prayer, but I do love having conversations with my Father! Thanks for the reminder and encouragement :)
Great, Kat! Thanks for sharing.

A prayer oft repeated at our church: “God, I can’t. You can. Please help.”
I love that. I also love one I heard, “Revive this church and start with me.”
