Your First Cars

There was such a good response to yesterday’s post about cars that I decided I’d share some pictures of your first cars. Let me know how yours compared to the one in the picture!

So how about it? Are the memories cooler than the reality? I dunno…some of these are pretty cool. Some are pretty… well … first-car-ish!

Thanks for stopping by, JD.

hey, i don’t remember wearing anything like what they were wearing in the pic of my car. i wouldn’t be caught dead in those clothes! ;-)

that pic of the fiesta, with the exception of it being the wrong color … mine was white, reminds me of the time i was in chicago just after boot camp, and me and a friend of mine were headed to milwaukee to see … uh the museum … yeah that’s it! we were going to see lavern and shirley, yeah, yeah that’s the ticket. hey, i was young and on my own. i don’t go to those museums anymore.

anyway, as i was saying, it was snowing and the interstate was covered with snow. we were headed north and all of a sudden the car was like it was on a turntable. we spun into the cement median and there was not a scratch on the car. right then i knew i had been blessed and we went to the next exit and turned around and headed back to the barracks.

that’s all i have to say about that. thanks for the memories, jd!

WHO HAD THE STARSKY-MOBILE? You are SO LUCKY!

My Courier was baby blue, and it had a camper top.

Now, for the real fun, imagine a 6’5″ guy sitting in the cab of that little truck.

    Pretty sweet, huh?

You guys an gals are so young! Mine was an ugly 1953 Ford tudor post with a 6 cylinder and three on the tree. $175 including tax and titile.

For those of you who like street rods the fellow at http://www.carnut.com has collected over 100,000 very nice pictures.

    His peace,
    Royce

Wow, thanks for putting up those pictures -some of them of pretty obscure models. The red Ford ragtop is, I’m pretty sure, a ’54, whereas mine was a 53. The main difference other than cosmetic is that Ford came out with the overhead valve V-8 for the ’54 model year, replacing the flathead which had been around since 1932. By contrast, Chevy didn’t have a V-8 until the ’55 model year, which means of course that the first two years of Corvettes were saddled with a straight 6 and two-speed automatic transmission.

i haven’t seen a pinto wagon for years. thanks for the laughs!

My first car was an ’86 Mustang GT…and that is how I knew it was providential that I move to Mustang, OK! Just kidding, kinda (it may not have been straight-up providential sign, but it’ll do in a pinch).

After I had a wreck, my next car became a dirt-brown 1977 Omega (that was a slight downgrade…)

Hope your new chapter of ministry is going gr8, btw!

  8. My Corvair was not a convertible but that looks really nice …

I’m in Milwaukee for a few days for a funeral so I may not be by in the next few days.

Mine was a ‘Vette, a Che-vette that is. Four doors of car with a powerful hatchback that could fit into the tightest of parking spaces.

  11. kendorsey says:

My 69 Impala was white, black top, and had four doors. Four doors were not that cool until we all wanted to go to the movie. I can still hear,”let’s take Ken’s car, we can get 9 people in his car”.

  12. J D says:

Enjoying all the comments and memories.

DeaconKen, that made me laugh. Can we get 9 people in your Hummer?

  13. Trey Morgan says:

The Starsky and Hutch car ROCKS.

  14. kenny says:

    i second trey’s comment!

  15. kendorsey says:

I don’t think 9 can fit into an H3. I have trouble getting 2 sets of golf clubs in the back. It only seats 5 uncomfortably. I wish cars still had bench seats in the front. Girl-friends could sit really close.
Excuse me, I mean wives could sit real close.
Come to think of it, bench seats maynot be a good thing. (man I hope my wife doesn’t read your blog.)

  16. That Girl says:

Actually, mine was a 72 Gran Torino Sport. Just like this http://www.hubcapcafe.com/ocs/pages01/ford7202.htm but with a white top.

  17. jel says:

yep I agree , the Starsky &Hutch car was cool!

my very first car was a 69 dodge dart swinger!

    but i always wanted a TR7 ;)

  18. Donna says:

My Duster was white with a brown top.

I dated a guy with an orange and white GTO…that was his only redeeming quality..but I loved that car!!

  19. skublaon says:

My first car was a 77 Chevy Caprice Classic.

  20. holyridaz says:

wow those pics bring back memories, always thought the torino was cool until my dad found a torino wagon…powder blue with the white racing stripe…to make matters worse he would stop when a group of people were around and have me go around to the back to let the window down (the handle was on the outside) very uncool) LOL

  21. Max Power says:

Mine was an ’83 Honda Civic – I got a pic of it around here somewhere… Best. Car. EVAR!!!

  22. J D says:
